THE WONDERS OF GARLIC
Benefits of Garlic:
Garlic is a remarkable and versatile ingredient celebrated not only for its distinct flavour but also for its numerous health benefits.

Rich in compounds like allicin, garlic is renowned for its potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, which can help strengthen the immune system and reduce the risk of chronic diseases. Studies suggest that regular consumption of garlic may lower blood pressure, improve cholesterol levels, and provide cardiovascular protection, making it a heart-healthy addition to the diet.

Furthermore, garlic has been shown to possess antimicrobial properties, potentially aiding in the fight against infections and promoting gut health by supporting beneficial gut bacteria.

Besides its health benefits, garlic is also low in calories yet high in vitamins and minerals, making it a nutritious way to enhance the flavour of various dishes.

Detriments of Garlic:

Despite its many advantages, garlic can have some adverse effects for certain individuals. One of the primary concerns is that garlic's strong compounds can irritate the digestive tract, leading to symptoms such as heartburn, gas, or stomach upset, particularly when consumed in large amounts or on an empty stomach.

Additionally, garlic may interact with certain medications, such as blood thinners, potentially increasing the risk of bleeding, so individuals on such medications should consult their healthcare provider before significantly increasing their garlic intake.

Some people may also experience allergic reactions to garlic, resulting in symptoms such as skin rashes or gastrointestinal distress. Lastly, the strong odor associated with garlic can be off-putting and may lead to bad breath, which can be a social concern for some. Thus, while garlic offers numerous health benefits, it is essential to consume it in moderation and pay attention to individual tolerance levels to avoid any unwanted side effects.
